TGJ 4ME - Course Overview

 

Description

The film course encourages students to develop the skills necessary to achieve creative and critical independence in their knowledge, experience and enjoyment of film. Through the IB Film course students will develop an appreciation and understanding of the art of film making, the ability to plan stories and ideas for their own film productions, film production skills, critical evaluation of their own and others film productions and an awareness of international film-making.

Aims

The aims of the Film course at Higher Level and Standard Level are to enable students to:

  • have an understanding of the variety of ways in which film creates meaning
  • have understanding and effective use of appropriate film language
  • demonstrate originality and creativity in developing an idea through the various stages of film-making, from conception to finished production
  • develop technical skills and an appropriate use of available technology
  • develop the ability to draw together their knowledge, skills, research and experience, and apply them analytically to evaluate film texts
  • develop a critical understanding of the historical, theoretical, socio-cultural, economic and institutional contexts of film in more than one country
  • develop the ability to research, plan and organise working processes
  • develop the ability to reflect upon and evaluate film production processes and completed film texts.
