Overview:

Course Description:
This course emphasizes the development of literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students will analyze challenging texts from various periods; conduct research and analyse the information gathered; write persuasive and literary essays; and analyse the relationship among media forms, audiences, and media industry practices.
Prerequisite: ENG2D

Term One: September to January

Unit One: Echoes 11 - short fiction and non-fiction
Unit Two: Obasan by Joy Kogawa OR The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald
Unit Three: Literature Circle


Term Two: February to June

Unit Four: Othello by Shakespeare
Unit Five: Echoes 11 - poetry
Unit Six: 1984 by Orwell (Independent Research and Presentation)

Evaluation:
Class Work: There will be assessments during each unit, with evaluations at the end of each unit, covering the following categories 70%
