International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate is a widely recognized two-year comprehensive program that allows graduates to fulfill requirements of various national education systems. Mastery of subject content and the development of critical thinking, and research skills is excellent preparation for success at post secondary institutions in North America and abroad. The IB Program gives students the opportunity to investigate disciplines at a greater depth and breadth than they might normally.
This is a rigorous academic program which demands that the students not only take academic courses which reach considerably beyond the normal range of expectations, but are involved in a number of other non academic elements as well. The IB Program has at its core three elements, which further separate students from the mainstream. They are expected to write a 3,500 word in-depth research paper, do volunteer work, participate in athletics and engage in a creative activity on a regular basis over the final two years of the Program. The IB program encourages the development of experiential learning along with academic success.

Upon completion of the full 4-year Diploma, students are a well-rounded young people who have a variety of interests within and outside the school. They endeavor to enrich their social consciousness and academic base. Rarely do they choose to take a cursory look at an issue, rather, when engaged, students thoroughly investigates an issue and take seriously their responsibility to find their role in improving the situation. In addition to maintaining a strong academic standing, students must complete 170 hours of Creative, Active, and Community Service hours of experiential learning in order to fulfill his or her requirements for the IB Diploma.
IB Diploma students have demonstrated their academic credentials and community stewardship through their considerable involvement both inside the school environment as well as outside. Colonel By IB students are exceptional students who works very hard and achieves strong results for their efforts. They have the willingness and drive to go the extra mile in order to exceed expectations. This, coupled with their IB training make them excellent candidates for University and able to successfully deal with life’s challenges.
